Contact Group is one of the only companies in Tasmania that is NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accredited for Smoke and Velocity testing for Fume Cupboard to AS/NZS 2243.8 Appendices A & B.
Contact Group’s Specialist Supervisor Malcolm Duggan goes onboard the RSV Nuyina twice a year for smoke and velocity testing/certification as per the Australian Standard.
Mr Duggan said the smoke test is a visual indication of the performance of the fume cupboard.
“It’s a test involving a smoke stick which we release inside the fume cupboard to make sure whatever’s inside that fume cupboard stays in there to protect the user,” he said.
The second test he carries out is the velocity test.
“To meet Australia Standards, we have to make sure the fume cupboards are achieving point-five meters per second or above,” Mr Duggan said.
He also checks the light levels, sound levels, power points, emergency isolators and control panels.
Having NATA accredited test reports ensures our clients get access to the highest level of testing in the world. NATA accredited reports are traceable, test instruments are calibrated annually in a NATA accredited facility, and staff have a record of training and competency.
