In 2025, our Burnie HVAC-R team took on the largest mechanical project in the branch’s history, marking a major milestone for the team and the company as a whole.
Contact Group was contracted by Fairbrother Construction, for the HVAC-R installation at the impressive new Materials Design and Technology (MDT) building at Marist Regional College in Burnie.
The facility is a significant investment in the region’s educational infrastructure, providing modern, purpose-built spaces designed to inspire hands-on learning and creativity.
The new MDT building includes metal and wood workshops, general learning areas, dedicated machine rooms, breakout spaces, staff and student amenities, storerooms, and a specialised spray booth.
Each area required a carefully considered approach to air flow, temperature control, and ventilation to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and staff.
Led by Project Manager Corey Streets, the Burnie HVAC-R team rose to the challenge with exceptional planning, coordination, and workmanship.
The project involved the installation of seven gas heaters, a comprehensive air filtration system, a 10-kilowatt Mitsubishi Electric ducted system, two split systems, and a state-of-the-art spray booth designed for high-efficiency air management and safety.
Site foreman Ben Hardy said it has been one of the most rewarding and complex projects the team has worked on.
“With so many different trades on site, and the need to position all the vents around the lighting system and other services, it definitely kept us on our toes,” Ben said.
“But it’s been a great experience for everyone involved—especially for our apprentices who gained invaluable hands-on experience working on such a diverse and technically demanding project.”
This project is a testament to the team’s dedication, problem-solving skills, and commitment to quality workmanship.
Congratulations to Corey and the entire Burnie HVAC-R team for their outstanding effort and professionalism in completing this exciting project.
It’s an achievement that not only showcases our technical capability but also reinforces our reputation as a trusted partner in major construction projects across Tasmania.
