In October 2025, our Audio-Visual team completed an impressive AV project at the Kingborough Council Civic Centre, upgrading the video conferencing system used to host and broadcast Council meetings.
The system, which operates in three modes, includes four 86-inch commercial displays, 20 wireless Sennheiser microphones, and 10 QSC pendant speakers.
It has not only improved the audio-visual quality of the broadcasts but has also removed complexity for the Council staff who operate it.
Contact Group’s Integrated Technologies Specialist, Michael Macey, said the system features General Presentation Mode, Streaming Broadcast Mode, and Teams Mode, making it extremely flexible.
This capability was achieved through close collaboration between Contact Group and Creative Imagery’s Andrew Harcourt, who designed and delivered a custom broadcast solution tailored to the Council’s meeting requirements.
The multiple displays allow content to be shared during meetings to help boost engagement, with cameras automatically capturing whoever is presenting — from the audience to Councillors.
The Mayor has additional control via a touch panel display positioned in front of her, allowing her to mute microphones and turn off the broadcast if required.
Michael Macey said the wireless microphones are also extremely flexible and easy to set up and can be used for both Teams meetings and Council meetings.
“When the Mayor gives the floor to a Councillor, their microphone turns on and off with one simple touch — there’s no need for complicated switching,” he said.
“Where some councils have an expert AV operator to manage the broadcast, the new Kingborough system allows meetings to be managed from an iPad — anyone can do it,” he said.
The Council’s Manager of Digital Experience, Nathan Tenaglia, said the upgrade has taken the complexity away, allowing administrators to focus on the content of the meeting rather than the technology required to run it.
“It’s simplified the system and processes — it’s exactly what we asked for,” he said.
There was extensive collaboration between Contact Group’s specialist AV team and the client in the lead-up to the installation.
“The success of the project comes down to our work to understand the client’s needs and make tweaks to better suit their requirements,” Michael Macey said.
Contact Group thanked the Council for the opportunity to be involved, as well as our delivery partners; Creative Imagery, Sennheiser and Crestron.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
