In 2020 Contact Group’s northern technicians completed a significant power generation and network upgrade on Cape Barren Island, off the north-east coast of Tasmania in Bass Strait.
The project involved modifying and expanding on the Island’s existing solar power system, with additional upgrades to the battery system, as well as new standby diesel generators. The entire system is now an integrated system and can be controlled and monitored via ethernet.
The High Voltage network was also inspected, faults rectified, and equipment upgraded.
The residents now enjoy better energy security, as well as a more reliable and robust electrical supply network.
The Contact Team delivered this project successfully and overcame the obvious challenge of working on a small remote island off the northern coast of Tasmania, with limited access, so planning and co-operation was essential to ensure we had everything we needed on each ferry trip.
Contact Group was the winner of the 2020/21 Energy Efficiency & Environment category in the NECA awards for the Cape Barren Island Power Generation Project.
