The Contact Group wins top gong for Hospital Redevelopment

Contact Group has been recognised at the industry’s annual awards night for its successful completion of the North-West Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre in Burnie. The Tasmanian owned family business took out the Best Medium Commercial Project award for the complex and challenging redevelopment, which was rolled out over the past three years and comprised some 40-thousand hours of electrical work.

The project included the construction of a new 3-level Cancer Centre, incorporating oncology and radiation services, additional MRI services, a Linac Bunker and control room, as well as the expansion of the existing Department of Emergency Medicine.

The Contact Group provided the full suite of electrical services to the new and existing facilities to ensure the hospital was transformed into a state of the art medical facility, capable of providing the latest technology and medical procedures to the North West Coast of Tasmania.

A key emphasis in design was Hospital wide communication and workflow management. A state of the art Amcom IP messaging platform was installed site wide, which collects information and alarms from the BMS, nurse call, duress, FIP and security system to process and control workflow accordingly.

Strategically planned shutdowns and outages to transition the services from the old world technologies to the new state of the art services, were a significant task to undertake. The successful completion of such a high profile project, on such a vast site, within the confines of an operating Hospital, is a true testament to the ability of Contact Group technicians.

The Contact Group is now the largest electrical contractor in Tasmania, employing over 160 staff at offices in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.
