UTAS Fume Cupboard Maintenance

Contact Group is pleased to announce it has just secured a new three year contract with the University of Tasmania for the maintenance of fume cupboards at its campuses across the state.

This builds upon several other contracts Contact Group holds with the University, including statewide fire and electrical services, as well as the redevelopment of the Inveresk campus.

When it comes to fume cupboard maintenance, there is no company in Tasmania better qualified or experienced than Contact Group.

Contact Group is the only company in the state that is NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accredited for Smoke and Velocity testing for Fume Cupboard to AS/NZS 2243.8 Appendices A & B.

Having NATA accredited test reports ensures clients get access to the highest level of testing in the world.

NATA accredited reports are traceable, test instruments are calibrated annually in a NATA accredited facility, and staff have a record of training and competency.

This accreditation is highly valued by a number of Tasmania’s leading research and educational facilities which are clients of Contact Group, including:

• CSIRO including RV Investigator

• Australian Antarctic Division including RV Nuyina

• Nyrstar

• Analytical Services Tasmania

• Forensic Services Tasmania

• The Hutchins School

Contact Group has two NATA representatives, Malcolm Duggan and Aaron Midson, who are the most experienced fume cupboard technicians in Tasmania.

Malcolm Duggan has 25 years’ experience and has worked at over 50 sites in Tasmania, installing and maintaining fume cupboards.

He also holds the Tasmanian Distributorship for Dynaflow Fume Cupboards, the leading supplier of fume cupboards in Australia.

Mr Duggan said securing the UTAS fume cupboard contract was a good reflection of Contact Group’s expertise, site knowledge and staff.

I think having NATA accreditation was a definite advantage, it made us stand out from the pack and gave UTAS confidence in the competency of our staff and the consistency of testing.

Malcolm Duggan | Contact Group NATA Representative

Mr Duggan has 15 years experience working at the University and said he was looking forward to continuing that relationship.

The UTAS contract is the biggest fume cupboard maintenance contract in Tasmania.
