Contact Group was honoured to attend the 2025 NECA Excellence Awards held in Launceston on August 9th.
It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Tasmanian electrical industry and all the amazing projects being carried out across the state.
Congratulations to our Hobart based electrician Samuel Goldsmith, who was named a joint winner of the Apprentice of the Year Award (Commercial/Domestic).
This is a wonderful finish to Sam’s Apprenticeship and much-deserved recognition for his hard work and commitment to learning.
A huge congratulations also to Contact Group’s specialist AV team, which won the Audio-Visual Excellence Award for its UTAS Videowalls project.
Contact Group was engaged by the University of Tasmania to design, supply and install two 163-inch modular LED videowalls at the Burnie Westpark Campus and the Law Faculty at the Sandy Bay campus.
Each display, made up of 288 high-resolution LED tiles, was meticulously assembled onto custom-engineered walls—expertly constructed by Contact Group’s building division to ensure flawless alignment.
By leveraging the expertise of our multidisciplinary team, Contact Group provided an end-to-end solution that exceeded client expectations.
Our work on the LGH Helipad was also Highly Commended in the Small Commercial Excellence Award category.
For this project we completed the electrical, communications, security, mechanical, medical gases and fire safety system installation.
Working at heights of 30-metres, the team overcame complex site and quality related challenges to install specialty cable, aviation lighting and telemetry, as well as a unique Deck Integrated Fire Fighting System, capable of releasing 4,000-litres of water per minute.
Our team implemented clever design optimisation initiatives to satisfy the requirements of aviation safety, with consultants crediting the helipad as being amongst the best in the country, and the lighting system visible from the Launceston Airport, 13-kilometres away.
