Contact Group Wins Three Awards

Contact Group was extremely proud to be recognised at the 2022 NECA Excellence Awards, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hobart over the weekend.

Over 250 people from the electrical industry attended the Awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements and the best projects across the State.

Contact Group won three of the nine Excellence Awards on offer, taking out the Work Health & Safety Award, the ICT and AV Award and the Medium Commercial Project Award.

The Work Health & Safety Award – Excellence in Action was in recognition for Contact Group’s COVID Safety Plan.

Contact Group developed a stringent COVID-19 Safety Plan with the onset of the pandemic, understanding its responsibility to protect staff, clients and the community.

While we had to make allowances and changes to all operations across the state, our most significant challenge was ensuring the safety of our staff, patients and other workers at the Royal Hobart Hospital, whilst carrying out critical maintenance of key assets.

Contact Group ensured staff adhered to the strictest infection control procedures, were familiar with the correct donning and doffing of PPE and used the mobile containment unit to limit the chance of contamination.

The Minister for Workplace Safety, Elise Archer, presented the Work Health & Safety Award to Contact Group’s WHS Coordinator Zoa Short.

The ICT & AV Excellence Award recognised Contact Group’s AV installation at Department of Justice Shared Tribunals (TASCAT) in Barrack Street Hobart.

The TASCAT installation included the latest digital signage to display the Tribunal’s daily schedules, which was integrated with Outlook and displayed on a custom template designed by a Contact Group Technician.

Throughout this project Contact Group’s specialist AV team implemented clever design initiatives to future proof the AV systems, so that the Tribunal rooms can adapt and cater to whatever hearing is taking place.

This has already been highlighted by the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings, which was able to be streamed live online, due to the flexible design of the AV system and the high-end video conferencing technology expertly installed by Contact Group.

Contact Group’s AV Manager Andrew Otley accepted the ICT and AV Excellence Award.

The Medium Commercial Project Excellence Award recognised Contact Group’s work at the Southern Remand Centre (SRC), on the Risdon Prison site.

Contact Group was engaged to carry out the in-ground civil work on the new SRC, as well as the general electrical installation, which included significant light, power and communications services to the three storey prison building, containing 156 individual cells, work spaces, day rooms, plantrooms and exercise areas.

Contact Group overcame many obstacles and challenges unique to the prison environment, to deliver this much needed facility which will reduce the strain on Tasmania’s prison system.

Contact Group Project Manager Paul Gleeson received the Medium Commercial Project Award for Contact’s work at the Southern Remand Centre.

We also had a Finalist in the Apprentice of the Year Awards, Nicholas Twining, from our Launceston branch.

Contact Group’s General Manager, Dion Frame, said it was incredible result given the standard of submissions this year.

“It was a really strong field of candidates and projects, with all the Award Finalists doing an outstanding job of showcasing our industry and all the great work that’s happening around the state,” he said.
