Mission Australia staff and Contact Group giving back to the community.
Contact Group staff partnered with Mission Australia to makeover community housing properties in Rokeby.

Contact Group has been working hard in the Hobart suburb of Rokeby in recent weeks, donating its services to upgrade Mission Australia public housing properties.

Contact Group has provided about $60,000 worth of free maintenance work, ranging from electrical services, to building, painting and plumbing work.

The first property, which required a full renovation, is now ready for a new family to move in and create a home.

With rents at an all-time high in Tasmania, affordable, safe and secure properties like these are needed more than ever.  

“The support we’ve received from Contact Group means that a vulnerable Tasmanian will get a beautifully upgraded home,” Gavin Spinks, Regional Asset Manager for Mission Australia Housing Tasmania said.  

“This partnership will make a real impact on Mission Australia Housing tenants and help ensure that more people in need can access safe and affordable accommodation.” 

Contact Group’s General Manager Dion Frame said the Tasmanian-owned family business is proud to support Mission Australia and the local community, at a time when so many families are struggling.

“We recognise the long wait for public housing in Tasmania, and wanted to donate our services to ensure properties are ready for new tenants as quickly as possible,” he said. 

Contact Group also donated its services to Mission’s “Midday Maintenance” initiative, where a team of Mission Australia staff and Contact Group technicians spruced up an entire housing complex.

From replacing power points to repairing screen doors and cleaning gutters, Contact Group staff rolled up their sleeves and got the work done with a smile.

“Most of the properties were built in the 1950s and 60s, so giving them a small makeover can make a big difference to tenant’s lives,” Mr Frame said.

Contact Group has managed facilities maintenance for Mission Australia’s southern housing portfolio since November 2022.
