Southern Remand Centre

In March 2022 Contact Group completed one of its largest electrical projects to date, the new $85 million Southern Remand Centre on the Risdon Prison site. This is the State’s first facility designed specifically for people on remand, which will allow them to be housed separately from sentenced offenders, in a more positive and mentally stimulating environment

Contact Group was immensely proud to be involved in this hugely important development, carrying out the in-ground civil component of the project, which included the pit and pipe work for the electrical, security and communications infrastructure. Contact Group was also engaged to complete the general electrical installation, which included significant light, power and communications services to 156 individual cells, work spaces, offices, day rooms, plantrooms and exercise areas.

This $4.3 million contract involved more than 20-thousand hours of work for Contact Group and saw our highly experienced staff overcome a range of challenges unique to the prison environment, to deliver this much needed facility which will reduce the strain on Tasmania’s prison system.

These works awarded Contact Group the NECA excellence awards State Winner in 2022 for the best Commercial Medium Project in Tasmania.
