Department of Justice Shared Tribunals
Contact Group completed the installation of audio visual and control systems for the Tasmanian Civil & Administrative Tribunal, providing cutting edge technology to facilitate video conferencing and the general operations of the mixed-use hearing rooms.
This is one of several Justice Department contracts awarded to Contact Group in recent years, with our specialist AV team selected to upgrade both Supreme and Magistrates Courts across the state and provide ongoing maintenance of the AV systems.
The TASCAT installation included the latest digital signage to display the Tribunal’s daily schedules, which was integrated with Outlook and displayed on a custom template designed by a Contact Group Technician. Contact Group also customised Crestron room booking screens outside each of the hearing rooms, integrated with the Tribunal’s booking calendar.
Throughout this project Contact Group’s specialist AV team implemented clever design initiatives to future proof the AV systems, so that the Tribunal rooms can adapt and cater to whatever hearing is taking place. This has already been highlighted by the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings, which was able to be streamed live online, due to the flexible design of the AV system and the high-end video conferencing technology expertly installed by Contact Group.
Southern Remand Centre – Civil & Electrical Installation
Contact Group was engaged to carry out the in-ground civil work on the new SRC, as well as the general electrical installation, which included significant light, power and communications services to the three storey prison building, containing 156 individual cells, work spaces, day rooms, plantrooms and exercise areas.

In March 2022 Contact Group completed one of its largest electrical projects to date, the new $85 million Southern Remand Centre on the Risdon Prison site. This is the State’s first facility designed specifically for people on remand, which will allow them to be housed separately from sentenced offenders, in a more positive and mentally stimulating environment
Contact Group was immensely proud to be involved in this hugely important development, carrying out the in-ground civil component of the project, which included the pit and pipe work for the electrical, security and communications infrastructure. Contact Group was also engaged to complete the general electrical installation, which included significant light, power and communications services to 156 individual cells, work spaces, offices, day rooms, plantrooms and exercise areas. This $4.3 million contract involved more than 20-thousand hours of work for Contact Group and saw our highly experienced staff overcome a range of challenges unique to the prison environment, to deliver this much needed facility which will reduce the strain on Tasmania’s prison system. These works awarded Contact Group the NECA excellence awards State Winner in 2022 for the best Commercial Medium Project in Tasmania.
RHH COVID Safety Plan
Contact Group was awarded the Work Health & Safety Excellence in Action Award for our Royal Hobart Hospital COVID Safety Plan. This Award recognised our stringent safety policies and the efforts of our mechanical services team, who ensured the maintenance of critical assets during the pandemic.
Contact Group was awarded State Winner for the 2020/21 NECA Excellence awards in the Work Health & Safety Best Practice category. Having our system recognised in this way is an honour and a testament to Contact Group’s dedication to the health and well-being of our staff.
Hydro Cethana Power Station Transformer Vortex Suppression
Contact was engaged to design and construct a fire electrical protection control system that uses Vortex products.
Cape Barren Island Power Generation Project
The Cape Barren Island Project works involved modifying and expanding on the Island’s existing solar power system, with additional upgrades to the battery system, as well as new standby diesel generators.

The Cape Barren Island Project recently completed involved modifying and expanding on the Island’s existing solar power system, with additional upgrades to the battery system, as well as new standby diesel generators. The entire system is now an integrated system and can be controlled and monitored via ethernet.
The High Voltage network was also inspected, faults rectified and equipment upgraded.
The residents now enjoy better energy security, as well as a more reliable and robust electrical supply network.
The Contact Team delivered this project successfully and overcame the obvious challenge of working on a small remote island off the northern coast of Tasmania, with limited access, so planning and co-operation was essential to ensure we had everything we needed on each ferry trip.
